Make sure that the cream chargers you purchase are compatible with your whipped cream dispenser – 8gm and 16gm refills are not interchangeable (some suppliers will sell an adapter, but we don’t recommend them due to the chance of failure). Almost all types of dispenser will accept these push-fit chargers, but there are exceptions (eg. Kisag) that require specialised threaded screw-fit cartridges. The size of cream dispenser is not important when choosing the brand of charger – you can simply use more refills for the larger capacity whippers (eg. 2x 8gm for a one litre whipper).

Cream Chargers

The two items that every serious experimenter needs when entering the world of the molecular cuisine is a whipped cream dispenser and a cream chargers. They are simple in their design and surprisingly good at adding a touch a new-age cookery science without much fuss.

The process is simple – the chargers contains nitrous oxide gas under pressure this is used to pressurize and inflate any liquid that is contained within the body of the whipped cream dispenser. The resulting bubbles an be trapped by various mechanisms and ingredients to produce a mousse, cream or espuma – depending upon how they are used.

The reason for using nitrous oxide as the propellant gas is that it does not effect the flavour of the ingredients in any way – this is different to other gases such as Carbon Dioxide which will acidify the recipe and change its flavour – just think of the difference in taste between regular tap water and soda water – it is quite extreme is it not?

So much better than liss chargers – I reckon that with liss I got 5% of them that weren’t really all that good. Maybe I’m a bit too fussy but it is hard to put a value on reliability. It is possible I was just unlucky with the liss chargers – and they did come with free postage – beggars can’t be choosers so make up your own minds.

I think your are right, you get what you pay for. Although it is worth noting that all of the different brand come from only three factories in Europe – so some cream chargers are going to be the same regardless of the labelling and the box.

Also they all need to contain food grade nitrous oxide so the active gas must be identical in all of them. The amount of fill is another matter – but within a certain tolerance it should be exactly 18
g or 8g exactly as stated and if it isn’t then that is certainly an issue of the manufacturing process of the cream chargers.

    :

I disagree with bot of the above – when you buying cream chargers you are buying a chemical – and by definition that chemical needs to be pure. We are not talking about art here but science – all cream chargers contain the same stuff – pure nitrous oxide, just like every soda syphon uses only pure CO2. There is no room in a factory for altering the component ingredients of the basic chemicals – nitrous is nitrous is nitrous. This is not lie sausages where any manufacturer can choose the subtle flavours and ingredients to add – don’t be fooled. What you are looking for is good service from the shop, the actual whippers are always going to be the same.

almst true – but not quite. What you’re saying would be true if all the chargers were manufactured to the same high-spec as the likes of bestwhip, however they are not.

Summer is here and as soon as the weather improves I’m going on a whipped cream frenzy – which is why I got 100 cream chargers… that’ll keep me stocked up for an ice cream sundae with the family every day!!! Long may the sun shine upon us… thanks Feedwhip!!!!

      I couldn’t agree more!

I thought I’d only be using these cream chargers fir simple whipped cream recipes, but I’ve become a big fan of making flavoured whipped cream. Now I hardly ever just go for the plain stuff.

A Saturday delivery option that doesn’t cost the earth is certainly worth a five star rating. U know that others have this option, but sometimes the cost of the delivery makes it too much to even consider.

Its not the quality of the cream chargers that I’m reviewing, but rather the quality of the service. Not many companies go to as much effort as feedwhip when it comes to bank holiday deliveries…. At least not as far as I know. So thanks for the prompt delivery and a big thumbs up to you!

    :

Excellent chargers, I usually get kayser brand, but have actually realised that all cheap chargers are made by the same factory – or at least that is what I gave been told. If this is true then only the printing on the boxes changes. Id appreciate some feedback from feedwhip to let us know if that is true….

Well done feedwhip, when nobody else could help me, you had everything in stock and you backed it up with next day delivery… thanks!

Excellent – next day delivery exactly as promised. Got a text to say on its way – would have given full 5* review if I could have selected a delivery time, but I suppose you can’t have everything can you??

Okay, now I get why it is called sweet-air, I used these chargers to make a molecular infusion and the resulting raspberry vodka had a definite “sweet” taste that lasted approx. 5 minutes which must have been due to the nitrous gas that was dissolved into the vodka from the charger, it was subtle but certainly sweet! And before anyone comments it wasn’t fizzy.

    :

I git these for making whipped cream.. Like obviously! But I also got some if chemicals that molecule-R in in their molecular espuma kit. I think I managed to recreate everything except for the packaging for half the price. Granted, it would hardly do as a present but it certainly dies the job, after all nitrous is nitrous regardless if the box it came in!

    :

Surely all cream chargers are exactly the same? Feedwhip, liss, bestwhip? Don’t they all claim canisters of “pure” nitrous oxide? Isn’t it just the service of the shop that varies?

    :

Just to throw my hat into the ring, I’ve been buying whipped cream chargers for years and I have to say they are all the same, they really are. You are being fooled by the box if you think otherwise. My buying please policy is really simple, I buy the cheapest chargers from the most reliable seller. I avoid ebay because of the weaker follow up mechanism than you get from a dedicated shop. Amazon are great if you buy from them, not so good if you are using one of their marketplace sellers. The reality is…. all whipped cream chargers are the same, the price difference is negligible if you look at the per-charger cost, just choose an online shop that you trust to make good on “promises” of next day delivery.

I have to agree with the Liss Lover, chargers are all the same. Liss, Bestwhip, mosa whatever. Don’t waste your time thinking too much. They all contain the same gas – nitrous oxide – they all contain the same amount. – 8gm (two litres). You just pay more for the picture on the box! I bet the naysayers also buy designer clothes too! As for me it’s cheap Tesco basics all the way. Celebrate cheap chargers! Don’t miss the Liss.

    :

A question as much as a review. Why not use 16gm chargers? Most of the recipes I see ask you to use two standard chargers. And that us 2×8=16 so why not just use a single 16g cream charger? And as a follow up, can you get half liter dispensers for the 16gm chargers? Any response would be useful.

What is the fuss about? All cream chargers are the same. Jusy get a box and a dispenser, any brand. Seriously, you are all over thinking the world of whipped cream.
