Feedwhip update Jan 30 • Steve Leroux [Feedwhip admin] • Wed, Jan 31 at 06:00 PM No comments
A major update was pushed out to Feedwhip's servers last night which improves the way Feedwhip detects and displays changes to your subscriptions.

A few feeds aren't processing as well as I'd like, and I'll be tweaking the algorithms over the next few days. If you're seeing too many changes in your emails, or things look a bit confusing, just sit tight -- they'll get better over the next day or two. Feel free to forward particularly strange-looking emails to me here at Feedwhip (send them to change-is-good at feedwhip.com) and I'll investigate.

For more details on this update and what's going on at Feedwhip HQ, visit the Feedwhip blog.

Regards,
Steve Leroux

Feedwhip is back online • Steve Leroux [Feedwhip admin] • Wed, Dec 20 at 05:56 AM No comments
Feedwhip is now back online after being out of service for the past few days.

The northwestern United States was hit by a major windstorm last Friday which knocked out power to more than a million homes and businesses -- including Feedwhip. After the power was restored, Feedwhip's internet connection remained broken. It wasn't until late today that the problem was corrected.

For more details about the outage, visit the Feedwhip blog at http://feedwhip.wordpress.com. The Feedwhip blog is the best place to go to check on Feedwhip's system status, read the latest news, and see what's in store for the future of Feedwhip.

I apologize for any inconvenience this outage may have caused. I can't promise that it won't happen again -- nobody can -- but I'm working hard to make these kinds of outages as rare as possible.

Regards,
Steve Leroux

Default frequency has changed • Steve Leroux [Feedwhip admin] • Wed, Nov 29 at 09:13 PM No comments
Feedwhip continues to grow in popularity, and we're dealing with a few growing pains as a result.

I've changed the default setting for how often a feed is checked for updates. If used to be "check as often as possible", but now it defaults to "check every 24 hours".

If you've set the update frequency for your subscriptions to a specific value in the past, then you won't notice anything different.

If you've never explicitly set the update frequency for your subscriptions, then you'll now be getting updates once every 24 hours. If you need updates more often than that, just log in to your Feedwhip account, click on the subscription name, and change the frequency setting appropriately.

Thanks for your understanding while we work to improve the best free RSS/email service on the planet.

Ajaxy Goodness! • Steve Leroux [Feedwhip admin] • Sat, Nov 25 at 06:59 AM No comments
Things may have seemed quiet around here lately, but appearances were deceiving. Between diaper changes and bottle feedings I've been hard at work on a major upgrade to Feedwhip's look and feel.

The technical description for what I've done is "added more ajaxy goodness". In practical terms, you'll find that Feedwhip is now much quicker and easier to use.

There are still a few areas that need some tweaking, and there's bound to be a bug or two -- if you come across something that doesn't seem right, let us know.

I hope you enjoy this upgrade as much as I enjoyed creating it for you. Keep on whipping!

Regards,
Steve Leroux

Feedwhip supports robots.txt • Steve Leroux [Feedwhip admin] • Wed, Sep 20 at 04:58 AM No comments
An update was pushed to Feedwhip's servers tonight which adds support for the robots.txt web standard. This means that webmasters can automatically ask Feedwhip to not access their pages.

This shouldn't happen very often, but if you've whipped a feed where this is the case, you'll now see a warning message instead of your usual updates. There's nothing we can do about this at our end -- we want to respect the wishes of the larger 'net community. We recommend you talk to the webmaster of the relevant pages and ask them to add an exception for "feedwhipbot" to their robots.txt file.

As always, we'd love to hear your comments and suggestions.

Multiple Email Addresses Per Account • Steve Leroux [Feedwhip admin] • Fri, Aug 25 at 11:40 PM No comments
Feedwhip's Premium users can now have more than one email address associated with their account. This is handy if you would like to receive notifications at home and at work -- you can now manage everything under one roof.

This is another great feature that was recommended by Feedwhip's users -- if you've got ideas for Feedwhip, send them in!
Feed Groups • Steve Leroux [Feedwhip admin] • Sun, Aug 06 at 06:00 PM No comments
Today we released a much-requested new feature: Feed Groups.

A feed group is a type of subscription that combines several feeds into a single feed. You can use this to organize your Feedwhip feeds, get fewer emails, and combine several RSS feeds into a single feed.

Feed groups are available for Premium users only -- visit our Premium page for more information.
New Look for Feedwhip • Steve Leroux [Feedwhip admin] • Tue, Jul 04 at 03:20 AM No comments
Today we released an exciting new look for Feedwhip. We've taken into account tons of suggestions from our users to create a new interface that is cleaner, easier to navigate, and just plain nicer to look at.

We'd love to hear what you think -- good, bad, or indifferent. Drop us an email.
